Investigators say Whiteville fire was intentionally set

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — Investigators say an early-morning fire in Whiteville was intentionally set.

A Whiteville police officer spotted the fire at 715 Davis Ave. this morning while on patrol.The Whiteville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 715 Davis Ave. early Wednesday morning. The fire was discovered by a Whiteville Patrol Officer while on routine patrol. The fire was at the home of a school resource officer.

The Whiteville Fire Department responded and managed to keep the damage to the outside of the building. No one was hurt.

The Whiteville Police and Fire Department, Fire Investigation and the city’s Risk Manager and Safety Officer (RMSO) Hal Lowder are investigating the fire. The damage to the structure was confined to the exterior. Lowder said there is about $1000 of damage to the home.

Lowder said there is no reason to believe this incident was targeted in any way.

There have been no arrests made at this time and there are no suspects.
